Homer's watercolor, Casting, "A Rise" was sketched on Mink Pond at the North Woods Club. In the same year, Homer made an etching of the same subject titled Fly Fishing, Saranac Lake. This painting is part of a series of Adirondack fishing subjects that Homer executed in 1889 whose "linear beauty handsomeness of pattern [and] resonant color harmonies remind one of the great Japanese painters."
