The authors maintain that the Adirondacks are one of the great undiscovered (road) biking areas in the eastern U.S. While the first Adirondack hiking guide was published in 1934, biking guides such as this one are a much more recent phenomenon. In part this is because of the sheer size and great expanses within the Adirondacks. Unlike neighboring Vermont, there is no established network of roads. And flat short loops are nearly impossible to find. Thus, many of the tours in this guide are on the fringes of mountains. Two of the authors are respected writers.
